Accessibility

This site is built to be usable by as many people as possible, and aims to meet the WCAG 2.2 AA standard.

What that means in practice

• Every photograph carries a written description for screen-reader users.
• The whole site can be used with a keyboard alone, including the photograph viewer — arrow keys move between frames, Esc closes it, and focus returns to where you were.
• Focus outlines are visible and never removed.
• Animation is decorative only, and is switched off entirely if your device is set to reduce motion.
• Every colour pair in the palette is measured against the AA contrast threshold, and the check is part of the build tooling rather than a one-off.
• Text resizes without breaking layout, and pages use real headings, landmarks and labelled form fields.

Known limitations

Photographs are, by their nature, visual. The descriptions explain what is in each frame, but they cannot fully replace seeing it. If you would like a fuller description of any image, ask and I will write one.

Headings and buttons that sit over a photograph — the large panels at the top of most pages — are laid over a darkening layer to keep them legible. Because the photograph beneath changes, that contrast cannot be guaranteed to the same fixed figure as the rest of the site. The same wording always appears as ordinary text elsewhere on the page.
