Black and white portrait of a woman on a country path, hair caught by the wind

Portrait photography

Portraits that look like you.

Maternity, families and personal work, photographed on location.

A portrait session is mostly a walk somewhere good, with a camera along for it. The photographs happen in between the talking.

Sessions

Shot on location — parks, coast paths, city streets, wherever suits you.

Maternity

Unhurried and outdoors, in the light that flatters rather than the poses that do not. Bring whoever you would like in the frame with you.

Family & children

Children do not hold still, and I would not ask them to. I photograph what they actually do and let the good bits happen on their own.

Personal & branding

Photographs of yourself that do not look like stock headshots. Useful if you need pictures for your own work and would rather they felt like you.

Tell me roughly what the photographs are for and when suits you, and I will come back with what is available and what it costs. Pre-wedding and couple sessions are on the wedding page.

How a session works

Four steps, and none of them involve standing still for long.

  1. 01

    Tell me the plan

What the photographs are for, roughly when, and anything you already have in mind.

  2. 02

    Pick a spot

Somewhere that means something to you — or somewhere I know that will look right at that time of day.

  3. 03

    The session

Mostly walking and talking. I will nudge you when it helps and otherwise stay out of the way.

  4. 04

    Your gallery

Your edited photographs arrive in a private online gallery you can download from and share.

Where I work

On location across the South West.

Coast paths, woodland, city streets and back gardens. If you already have a place in mind, bring it; if not, I will suggest a few that work well at the time of day we are shooting.

  • Plymouth
  • Cornwall
  • Somerset
  • Bristol

Questions people ask

What should we wear?

Whatever you feel like yourself in. Plain colours tend to photograph well and busy patterns compete with faces, but being comfortable beats both.

Where do sessions happen?

On location, anywhere across Devon, Plymouth, Cornwall, Somerset and Bristol. If you have a spot in mind, tell me. If not, I will suggest a few.

What if the weather turns?

Soft grey light is kinder than bright sunshine, so more days work than people expect. If it is genuinely miserable, get in touch and we will sort something out.

Can you photograph a group?

Yes — families, friends and bands have all ended up in front of the camera. Tell me how many of you there are and we will find somewhere that works.
